Police believe a car was on the wrong side of a southern Tasmanian highway moments before a crash that killed two young men.
The men, both from greater Hobart, died at the scene of the two-vehicle crash on the East Derwent Highway at Old Beach on Tuesday morning.
Early investigations indicate the pair’s silver Holden Barina crossed onto the wrong side of the road “at an angle” shortly before it collided with a grey Mitsubishi Triton, police said.
The Barina was being driven by a 20-year-old man. His passenger was a 22-year-old man. They were the only people in the car.
The driver of the Triton was not seriously injured but was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital as a precaution.

“Investigations by officers from crash scene investigation services and forensics are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” a police spokesperson said.
“Our thoughts are with the family of loved ones of those involved in the crash.”
Police are asking anyone who saw the crash or who has dashcam footage of either vehicle beforehand to come forward.
Witnesses can contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously, quoting reference number 808925.
