Scott Roth has signed on for two more years with the Tasmania JackJumpers and he says it will be his last deal as head coach.
The extension keeps the championship-winning coach at the club until the end of the 2029 season.
Roth has led the JackJumpers since January 2021, when he was appointed as the inaugural head coach ahead of the team’s debut NBL22 season.
The 63-year-old built the side from scratch, won a title in year three and has helped shape several of the league’s current stars.
But he said the people of Tasmania are what mattered most.
“The biggest thing for me is the people of Tasmania,” Roth said.
“That’s the driving force, the impact Tasmanians have on my family, on my life.”
“They’ve been so gracious in welcoming us, I’m grateful and humbled and hungry for the next two years.”
Roth said the club had given Tasmanians something to be proud of.
“Our triumphs are Tasmania’s triumphs,” he said.
“That pride and belief in our team gave Tasmanians a real pride and belief in themselves too.”
He also said the JackJumpers had “raised the bar and paved the way for others like the AFL to build a team here with confidence”.
Roth confirmed this will be his final extension, with family time in the United States calling.
“I talk a lot about time-wealth and I don’t have a lot of it left in my lifetime,” he said.
“How I use time, I have to be smart about it and two years is about as much as I have left to give.”
Club chair Steve Old said Roth had done far more than coach a basketball team.
“Scott understands Tasmania, Tasmania understands Scott – and it’s a pretty special combination,” Old said.
Chief executive Trent Jacobs said the club believed Roth could keep the team in finals contention.
“We were clear that Scott is the right man to continue to lead the JackJumpers and we believe he can continue to consistently have us competing in finals and fighting for championships,” Jacobs said.
