Ken Hinkley is reportedly the frontrunner to be named the Tasmania Devils’ inaugural senior coach, with an announcement expected as early as Monday.

The former Port Adelaide coach flew from Melbourne to Hobart on Sunday morning to meet with Devils officials.

Standing alongside club CEO Brendon Gale, Tasmania Football Club chair Grant O’Brien spoke to media after the meeting but gave little away.

“Head coach of our AFL Devils team is a critical step for us, so we’ve been thorough and I guess you’ll hear from us soon,” he said this afternoon.

Asked whether an announcement could come on Monday, O’Brien said only “soon.”

“We’ve taken the presentation as we’ve done with everyone else and we’ve run it consistently and for us that’s important,” he said.

“We’ll consider it and we’ll make a decision shortly.”

Hinkley coached Port Adelaide for 12 years and would beat John Longmire and Nathan Buckley, who were also top candidates for the Devils’ coaching role.
