The state government has released the concept design for a $30 million expansion of the Kingston Community Health Centre.

Health Minister Bridget Archer released the stage two design today, saying it would help the centre meet the growing healthcare needs of the Kingborough region.

The plan divides the expanded facility at the Kingston Park site into three precincts – a children, women and family precinct, an oral health and audiology precinct and an adult health precinct.

“This will enable the existing Community Health Centre to provide a broader range of services and greater access to high quality community-based healthcare, improving patient outcomes,” Archer said.

New services will include a fixed BreastScreen site and audiology.

The children, women and family precinct will offer antenatal and postnatal care, parenting support, paediatric outpatients, youth services and child and youth mental health services.

The adult health precinct will focus on older adults with complex and chronic conditions. It will provide breast screening, renal dialysis, community nursing, physiotherapy, mental health care and alcohol and drug services.

“By combining services like maternity, child health and youth mental health under one roof, the Kingborough Community Health Centre will provide a convenient, accessible and supportive environment for families,” Archer said.

The original Kingston Health Centre opened in 2019 at a cost of $6.5 million.

The $30 million stage two expansion was promised as a Liberal election commitment in 2021 and funded in the 2023-24 state budget.

Residents can give feedback at drop-in sessions on July 30 at the Kingston Community Health Centre and August 1 at the Kingborough Community Hub. An online survey is open until 5pm on August 2.

The state government expects to lodge a development application with Kingborough Council in the coming weeks.
