Residents of Launceston are being treated to a free weekend of swimming and watersliding at the City of Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre.
The unexpected closure of Lilydale and Gorge First Basin pools due to a flooded South Esk River has prompted Mayor Matthew Garwood to open the centre for free.

“I’m stoked to be able to say that we’ve decided to open the [pool] to everyone for free from [Friday] throughout the entire weekend – waterslide included,” he shared on social media.
“So get your family and friends together and come along and enjoy a free swim and slide on us.”
The pool is open from 8am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
