A 33-year-old Longford has been caught allegedly riding his motorcycle at 97km/h in a 60km/h zone on Hobart Road at Breadalbane this morning.
Northern Road Policing Services pulled the rider over just after 10am on Saturday and handed him a $639 fine along with five demerit points.
The speed recorded was just 1km/h below the threshold that would have triggered an automatic three-month licence disqualification.
Tasmania Police urged riders and drivers to slow down, noting that motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable people on the road.
Travelling 37km/h over the speed limit significantly increases the risk of a serious crash and the severity of any injuries, police said.
“Speed limits are there for everyone’s safety,” Tasmania Police said.
Police said they would continue to engage, educate and enforce road safety laws to help ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.
