Maisy Gibson will captain the Tasmanian Tigers in the upcoming WNCL season, taking over from Elyse Villani who will miss the campaign for the birth of her first child.
Cricket Tasmania announced Gibson as the eighth WNCL captain of the Tigers, with Villani expected to return for the 2027/28 season.
“Im honoured to be given the opportunity to captain Tasmania and represent an organisation that means so much to me,” Gibson said.
“Elyse Villani has set an outstanding standard as a leader and I’m excited by the challenge of building on the strong foundation she has created.”
Gibson moved from New South Wales to Tasmania in 2019 and quickly became a key figure in the Tigers lineup.
She won the Veronica Pyke Medal as Female Tigers Player of the Year in her debut season and claimed the honour again in 2024/25.
Salliann Beams, General Manager of High Performance at Cricket Tasmania, said Gibson had earned enormous respect across the playing group.
“Maisy is an outstanding person who leads through the strength of her character, her genuine care for others and the standards she sets every day,” Beams said.
“She is also an exceptionally skilful and intelligent cricketer who has earned enormous respect across the playing group.”
“Her determination to bring the WNCL trophy back to Tasmania is clear and we’re incredibly proud to appoint her as Tigers captain and excited to see the impact she will have in the role.”
Gibson is set to make her captaincy debut when the Tigers open their 2026/27 campaign against Western Australia on September 29.
Tasmanian fans will have to wait until December 19 to see her lead the side at home, with the first home fixture of the season scheduled at Ninja Stadium.
