Major delays of around 30 minutes are expected to impact motorists using Hobart’s Southern Outlet this weekend as contractors continue work on the road.
The resurfacing and repainting of line markings on the crucial link between Hobart and Kingston began on Friday night, however as certain tasks are “unable to be completed at night”, extensive lane closures will be necessary throughout the weekend.
RoadsTas says only Hobart-bound lanes at Tolmans Hill, between the Proctors Road underpass and Olinda Grove, will be impacted from 8am to 8pm.
“Road users should plan for delays of up to 30 minutes when travelling during these times, delay their travel if possible or use an alternate route,” RoadsTas said.

“On Sunday, road users can expect short delays of about 15 minutes while we complete linemarking. There will be a reduced speed limit and traffic management in place during this time.”
Similar works in October of last year resulted in significant delays on the road and caused a traffic jam extending from Mount Nelson all the way back to Kingston.

Contractors were forced to postpone work for a less busy and more suitable time.
“To avoid stopping or traffic delays, road users may wish to use the Channel Highway via Kingston when travelling toward Hobart … We will try to minimise delays where possible,” RoadsTas said.
Motorists are being asked to be patient, to follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs and keep to the posted speed limit.
“More resurfacing works are planned for other major highways across the state throughout the warmer months.”
