Updated 8:45am, Wednesday September 2: An 18-year-old man has been charged after an aggravated carjacking in Moonah last night.
The incident unfolded around 6:25pm on Main Road when a man returned to his vehicle and was threatened by another man believed to be armed with a knife.
The offender allegedly stole the victim’s silver Toyota Camry and fled the scene towards Creek Road.
Police deployed road spikes to intercept the vehicle before it came to a stop in Pierce Street, Moonah.
The driver then abandoned the car and ran from the scene.
Officers searched the surrounding area and located the alleged offender, taking him into custody around 7:45pm.
No one was physically injured, police said.
Police allege the same man was involved in an earlier incident around 3pm, when he tried to break into two vehicles parked outside a business on Charles Street in Moonah.
The 18-year-old, from Devonport, has been charged with aggravated carjacking, stealing, evading police, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and unlawfully tampering with a motor vehicle.
He was due to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.
