A Kingston man has been charged after police allege he threatened a group with what is reported to have been a firearm at a reserve south of Hobart overnight.
Police allege a man was walking through Hawthorn Reserve at 5:40pm on Tuesday when two men approached him and hit him with a stick.
He was not seriously hurt, police said.
About 35 minutes later, the same man returned to the reserve with two others, police allege.
Three people confronted them, including one of the men involved in the earlier incident.
Police allege that during the second confrontation, the man punched one of the group in the face and threatened them with what is believed to be a firearm. It was not fired.
Officers were called after the second confrontation.
At 8pm, police attended a Kingston home with specialist resources and took a man into custody without incident.
The 26-year-old from Kingston has been charged with aggravated assault and common assault.
He was held in custody overnight and is expected to face the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.
“Investigations are ongoing in relation to other people allegedly involved and the location of the firearm,” a police spokesperson said.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Kingston Police on 131 444, quoting ESCAD 341-25082026.”
