A man has been pinned to the road by a police officer in a dramatic arrest that played out in front of queued traffic in central Hobart today.
The officer was seen holding the man down on Elizabeth Street as cars waited nearby.
The man, aged in his mid-20s, was taken into custody at the scene.
Police from Hobart station had been called to reports of a disturbance involving an adult male and a group of youths.

Officers were called around 11:45am to the area of Elizabeth Street Mall and Liverpool Street.
Police said they dealt with the situation “quickly and safely”.

The man was later released without any conditions.
No one was injured in the incident and police said there was no wider threat to the public.
