According to police, a bag containing multiple firearms, other weapons and drugs, believed to have been disposed of by the accused, was found in the immediate area.

A later examination of the bag revealed two shortened rifles, an imitation pistol gel blaster, a loaded crossbow, a quantity of methamphetamine and a small amount of cannabis.

Additional firearms and ammunition were discovered during a subsequent search at a home in the area.

The man has been charged with evading police, possessing unregistered, shortened, and prohibited firearms, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a crossbow.

He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court in May.
