Updated – 4:20pm, Thursday 18 September: Two teenagers have been arrested and charged following an alleged assault that left a 40-year-old man fighting for his life in Kings Meadows.
The incident occurred outside Zap Fitness on Hobart Road around 9:15pm on Wednesday, with the victim sustaining serious head injuries.
Launceston detectives today charged one 17-year-old boy with assault under the criminal code, who remains in custody.
A second 17-year-old boy has also been charged with assault under the criminal code but was granted bail to appear in court at a later date.
The victim was transported to Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Earlier: A 40-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after an alleged assault outside a Launceston gym last night.
The victim sustained serious head injuries during the incident at Zap Fitness on Hobart Road in Kings Meadows at about 9:15pm on Wednesday.
He was rushed to the Launceston General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Police say the assault followed a “brief verbal exchange” between the victim and an unknown attacker outside the fitness centre.
The offender fled the scene and remains at large.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the Hobart Road area around the time of the incident.
