A man in his fifties has been left shaken after facing significant verbal abuse by a group of youths at Eastlands shopping centre this afternoon, prompting a police response.
Tasmania Police said officers received a report of the incident at around 3:35pm.
“Police received a report of a man being verbally threatened by a number of youths in the shopping centre,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
“Police attended and the man and all youths had left the scene.”

No physical assault was reported.
It is understood around 12 high school students were involved in the incident, with the man reportedly too frightened to leave the shopping centre while the group lingered near the exits.

A witness described the scene as intimidating.
“There was about 12 high school kids yelling abuse at a 55yo male,” the witness told Pulse.
“He was too scared to leave as they were at the exits waiting for him.”
Police have encouraged anyone with information on any incidents to come forward.
