A rifle fitted with a silencer has been seized from a property in the Sandford area and the owner’s firearms licence has been suspended.
The 56-year-old man will face court by summons over alleged firearm-related offences after a search of his property east of Hobart in late 2025.
Wildlife rangers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania carried out the search with help from Tasmania Police.
Under Tasmania’s Firearms Act, it is illegal to have or use a silencer without the right approval.
A firearm fitted with a suppressor is treated as a prohibited weapon under the same law.
All firearms registered to the man have been seized along with the suspension of his licence.
Tasmania Police reminded licence holders of their legal responsibilities and the strict rules around owning and using firearms and suppressors.
Anyone unsure of their obligations is urged to visit the Firearms Services website for more information.
