A meteor streaked across Tasmania’s night sky on Sunday, treating stargazers to a spectacular light show captured on camera.

TassieCams footage captured the meteor streaking across the skies of Tasmania from two perspectives, one from Launceston and the other from Arthurs Lake, capturing the falling star moving before a vivid green flash lit up the darkness.

Reports flooded social media from people who spotted the meteor around 9:30pm, with sightings stretching from as far south as Kingston through to the state’s north.

“Saw it in Kingston was huge and so bright and so fast sadly was driving so I couldn’t get a photo or video,” one social media user wrote.

“Saw it from Glenorchy, it was over in the blink of an eye,” another said.

Another observer posted that they’d spotted it from their lounge room in Bridport, describing it as “so bright”.
