A motorcyclist has had his bike seized after he was allegedly clocked riding at more than 190km/h on the Bass Highway in Tasmania’s north-west.

Tasmania Police said officers spotted the 24-year-old man riding at excessive speed at Turners Beach around 10am on Sunday, April 19.

Police later tracked down the rider and the motorbike in Ulverstone.

The motorbike has been seized for 28 days and the rider will be summonsed to appear in court over multiple driving offences.

Acting Sergeant Hardy from Ulverstone police station said the behaviour put lives at risk.

“Excessive speeding places the rider and other road users at serious risk,” Hardy said.

“Travelling at extreme speeds significantly reduces a rider’s ability to react to unexpected hazards and greatly increases the likelihood of serious injury or death.”

Police warned they “will not hesitate” to hold drivers to account when dangerous behaviour is detected.

Anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage of the motorbike is urged to contact police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
