Updated, 2:45pm Thursday January 16: Police have confirmed one person has received serious injuries following a crash on the Bass Highway.
The highway is expected to remain closed for several hours.
Earlier: The Bass Highway has been closed following a serious crash near Ulverstone this afternoon.
Emergency services are at the scene of the incident between South Road and Knights Road and are treating a “number of patients”.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted at South Road and westbound traffic at Knights Road.
Police say injuries have been reported. Their extent remains unknown.
Motorists are being told to avoid the area.
Eastbound traffic is currently backed up towards Penguin for about 2km.
