The motorcyclist found deceased down a bank in North-West Tasmania on Monday has been identified as 60-year-old Robby van Zelm.
Tributes have been pouring in from the community for the beloved father, grandfather, and brother from Ulverstone.
Robby was riding with a group of motorcyclists on the weekend when he became separated from the group and was found deceased on Monday.
Robby’s daughter Learnah shared a heartfelt message on social media, saying, “I am so saddened and heartbroken to share the news that my amazing Dad was tragically taken from us on Sunday. I love you forever and always. Rest peacefully”.
Members of the motorcycling community, who were riding with Robby, have also shared their condolences and memories of their beloved friend.
Mr van Zelm is the 5th fatality of 2023 on Tasmanian roads, and 46 serious injuries have already occurred this year.
These numbers have surpassed last year’s figures at the same time. In 2022, 50 people died in road accidents in Tasmania, which is 15 more than the previous year and 51% higher than the 5-year average.
Tasmanian motorcyclist found dead down bank after fatal crash
A Tasmanian man has been found dead down a bank in Northern Tasmania after a motorcycle crash on the weekend.
The 60-year-old man from Ulverstone was found at Union Bridge Road near Paradise after he disappeared while riding with a group on Sunday.
Police say he was last seen around 3:30PM, with the riders in his group reporting him missing after he failed to arrive at the destination.
“Members of the group drove the previous day’s route, and sadly located the man and his motorbike last night down a small bank off the side of the road.”
Police are conducting an investigation and preparing a report for the Coroner.
