A public toilet filled with cans of Red Bull and rubbish has prompted calls on social media for the person responsible to “do better”.
The Gutteridge Gardens restroom in Wynyard was found in a ‘disgusting state’ by a woman who had stopped to use it on the way back to Smithton from Launceston after a bladder operation.
Sharing the photos on social media, a friend of the woman said she felt sorry for the cleaners who have to deal with such messes.
“Imagine what the tourists must think when they visit Wynyard and are faced with an image like this,” she said.
“Seriously whoever did this, take a good look at yourself an [sic] do better.”
Waratah-Wynyard Council General Manager Shane Crawford voiced the council’s extreme disappointment over the recent vandalism of public facilities.
“We have recently invested heavily in upgrading our public toilets, as we know our community values them,” he told The Advocate.
“While this sort of vandalism is not unique to our area, we a nonetheless disheartened to see such senseless behaviour.”
“We encourage anyone who witnesses vandalism to contact the police.”
In the state’s south, the Kingborough Council last year closed toilets at night after a string of vandalism incidents become ‘too expensive to fix’.
