Power has been restored across the CBD and roads have been re-opened.
6pm, Friday January 12: A 100 metre exclusion zone remains in place in the Devonport CBD after a car collided with the front of a building and caused a gas leak.
Police and emergency services remained at the scene of the crash on Rooke Street on Friday evening, more than 6 hours after the incident was first reported.
Police say a small vehicle, driven by a woman, entered the footpath area on Rooke Street and struck two pedestrians and the front of a building around 2:10pm.
Two pedestrians have been taken to hospital with injuries from the crash, including a 61-year-old woman who is in a serious condition.
Three other people have been transported to hospital with throat irritation from what is believed to be gas exposure.
Power remains switched off to some customers in the Devonport CBD, with roads also blocked off until the scene is declared safe.
2:25pm, Friday January 12: A car has reportedly struck a pedestrian and the front of a building in Tasmania’s north this afternoon.
Police say officers are responding to reports of a single vehicle crash on Rooke Street at Devonport.
They say details of injuries are not yet known and that there is a potential gas leak in the area.
“Police are conducting evacuations on Rooke Street and all parallel streets,” police say.
“Anyone in the area is asked to leave the vicinity.”
Police have cordoned off the bottom of King Street on Formby Road near the scene.
TasNetworks say over 1,000 customers in the south of the city are without power as a result of the incident.
