Pedestrian ‘hit by truck’ at busy Launceston intersection

A pedestrian who was hit by a truck near the intersection of Paterson and St John Street in Launceston this morning was an on-duty senior sergeant, Police have revealed.

Northern District Commander Kate Chambers said the senior sergeant, who was in plain clothes at the time of the accident, suffered a number of pelvic fractures and other injures as a result of the incident.

The man remains in the Launceston General Hospital in a serious but stable condition as investigations into the crash continue. 

Police say the driver of the rubbish truck involved in the crash was not physically injured and is assisting police with their investigation.

No charges have been laid.

EARLIER: A pedestrian who was hit by a truck near the intersection of Paterson and St John Street in Launceston this morning has been transported to hospital.

Police say officers remain at the scene of the ‘serious crash’ conducting investigations and urge motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area.

The patients’ condition is not known at this time, however it is believed to be serious.
