Person injured, South Arm Road closed after pedestrian struck by car

A pedestrian has been injured after they were struck by a car on a greater Hobart road tonight, police say.

South Arm Road is currently closed between Rokeby and Lauderdale, from the intersection of Acton Road and Oakdowns Parade, following the incident that was reported around 10pm on Thursday.

Police are diverting traffic away from the scene and have asked motorists to avoid the area until further notice.

A spokesperson has confirmed that injuries have been reported, although their severity remains “unknown at this stage”.

South Arm Road is currently closed between Rokeby and Lauderdale, from the intersection of Acton Road and Oakdowns Parade.

The nearly 2km section of South Arm Road that has been sealed off has a 70km/h speed limit and does not have any designated pedestrian footpaths.

Updated 9am, Friday January 19: South Arm Road reopened to motorists just before 2am on Friday morning.

A 58-year-old man was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Crash investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
