A Tasmanian man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle 50 grams of methamphetamine into the state aboard the Spirit of Tasmania ferry.
Police intercepted the 43-year-old Blackmans Bay resident on Wednesday night as he disembarked the vessel on foot.

The arrest was carried out by officers from Western Taskforce Scelus working alongside the police dog handlers unit.
Authorities estimate the seized methamphetamine could have led to approximately 500 street deals.

The man was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and subsequently released on bail.
He is scheduled to appear before the Devonport Magistrates Court in June.
