A person is in a serious condition in hospital after being shot in the stomach at a home on Tasmania’s north-west coast.
Tasmania Police were called to a residential property on Sandpiper Road in Wynyard around 3:05pm on Wednesday following reports of a “firearms incident”.
“Initial reports are one person sustained a serious gunshot wound to the stomach,” police said.
The victim has since been taken to hospital and is believed to be in a serious condition.

No other injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
A crime scene has been declared at the address and inquiries are continuing in both Wynyard and Burnie.

Multiple police units, including specialist resources, are responding to the incident.
Police have urged the public to stay away from the area while the investigation continues.
“Residents in the area … may notice an increased police presence during this time,” police said.
“To assist police, members of the public are advised to avoid the area while investigations are under way.”
Residents posting in local community groups reported a heavy emergency services response shortly after 3pm, with some describing multiple police vehicles travelling from the direction of Burnie towards Wynyard.
