A free hands-on exhibition exploring maths and computer science is touring 18 libraries across Tasmania.
Byte Wise, developed by Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre, is an interactive exhibition aimed at children, teens and families, with activities suited to students aged 10 to 15.
Visitors can try codebreaking, geometry and logic puzzles, test sorting algorithms and explore concepts such as binary counting, data compression, encryption and image representation.
Questacon is The National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra with more than 200 interactive exhibits related to science and technology and a popular location for school excursions Australia-wide.

Angela Sferco, Children and Young People Services Coordinator at Libraries Tasmania, said the organisation was thrilled to bring the exhibition to communities across the state.
“We are excited to host Questacon’s exhibition across our libraries,” Sferco said.

“Byte Wise offers a fun, hands-on way for children, families and educators to explore maths and computer science.”
“Visitors can try activities such as counting in binary, cracking codes and testing sorting algorithms.”
“The exhibition sparks curiosity, builds confidence and helps demystify how computers work.”
The tour begins at Launceston, Devonport and Ulverstone libraries this week and will travel to locations including Oatlands, Rosny, Hobart, Glenorchy, New Norfolk, Bridgewater, Kingston, Sorell, Huonville, Queenstown, Burnie, Smithton, George Town, Scottsdale and St Helens.
Each library hosts the exhibition for roughly two weeks before it moves on.
The tour wraps up at St Helens Library on September 18.
