A reckless p-plater who sped through a ‘dangerous’ Bass Highway intersection at almost 30km/h over the speed limit has been disqualified.
The 27-year-old Smithton man and holder of a provisional licence was caught racing through the 80km/h Stanley turnoff on the Bass Highway at 119km/h shortly before 10pm on Tuesday.
Sergeant Lee-anne Walters said the man has been disqualified from driving for 3 months, fined 6 demerit points and $828.75.
“Police remind motorists to remember that speeding is one of the fatal five contributing factors to fatal and serious injury crashes on our roads,” Sergeant Walters said.
“The junction this man was detected speeding at has had several serious crashes in the past.”
“Significant changes have been implemented to this section of roadway including the reduction of speed to enhance safety.”
“I implore all drivers to slow down and help police keep everyone safe on our roads.”
