A disqualified driver spotted behind the wheel in the state’s north-west has been arrested following an almost two-hour-long attempt to allegedly escape from police.
Roads were cordoned off and spikes were deployed in the Shearwater area around 12pm on Thursday after the 25-year-old man reportedly sped off from officers.
Acting Inspector James Scicluna said the man abandoned the vehicle at Northdown and fled on foot into nearby bushland.
Significant police resources, including the police drone unit, were deployed to search the area near Watsons Road before the man was apprehended “without incident”.
Scicluna assured that there was no risk to the wider community during the incident.
“I am proud of our police officers who remain committed to protecting our community,” he said.
“I would also like to thank the community for their patience and understanding of any delays during our searches yesterday.”
The man is scheduled to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court today on charges including driving while disqualified, evading police, family violence, bail breaches and possession of drugs and ammunition.
