A Burnie motorcyclist who crashed on the Bass Highway yesterday was trying to overtake two trucks, police have revealed.
The 26-year-old sustained serious injuries after hitting a traffic island and signpost at the East Cam Road intersection.
Police initially said the rider had hit a truck on the highway, but later confirmed that neither truck was involved in the crash and both drivers stopped to assist with inquiries.
The Bass Highway was closed for about 90 minutes following the incident.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage to come forward.

Earlier: A serious involving motorcycle is causing delays for motorists on the Bass Highway near Burnie this afternoon.
Police say the road is currently blocked near the intersection with East Cam Road, with traffic being diverted away from the scene.
“The motorbike rider has been taken to the North West Regional Hospital with serious injuries,” police said.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays and to avoid the area.”
The crash occurred just prior to the new Cam River Bridge, which recently fully opened to traffic.
