An elderly man has died and a 70-year-old woman has been left injured after a serious crash on the Bass Highway this afternoon.
Police say the 70-year-old man “veered off the highway and crashed into an embankment” at Stony Rise around 1:30pm on Friday.
Inspector Shane LeFevre said the Havenview man was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the woman was transported to North-West Regional Hospital for treatment.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and his loved ones at this time,” LeFevre said.
The highway is expected to remain closed until 6pm tonight.
Police are appealing to anyone that may have witnessed the crash or the white RAV4 driving West on the Bass Highway near the Homemaker Centre around the time of the crash to contact them.
Serious crash: Vehicle rolls on Bass Highway at Stony Rise
A serious crash is causing delays for motorists on the Bass Highway in Tasmania’s north this afternoon.
Police say a vehicle is believed to have rolled at Stony Rise near Tugrah Road, reportedly injuring two people.
People are asked to “avoid the area until further notice”, Police say.
