Heavy rainfall is pounding parts of Tasmania’s West Coast tonight, with Rosebery and surrounding areas at risk of flash flooding.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 8:25pm, citing showers producing intense rainfall over elevated terrain.
Mount Read recorded 31.4mm of rain in the two hours to 8pm.
A vigorous southwesterly airstream is driving the showers, the bureau said, warning conditions could trigger flash flooding over the next several hours.
Tasmania SES has followed up with a Storm Advice, urging residents to monitor conditions across the Western district.
The agency told residents to secure loose outdoor items, move vehicles under cover and stay indoors where possible.
“Never shelter under trees or powerlines,” it said.
