Smithton’s iconic Tall Timbers property has been put up for sale for the first time in over 30 years.

Established in the late 1980s by Al Hansen, Tall Timbers has became a renowned tourism destination in the north-west region across its three-decade history.

The property was acquired by his company, Tasmanian Seafoods, in 1990.

Following Hansen’s passing in 2021, his son Darvin, the managing director of Tasmanian Seafoods, is now selling the 10-hectare property to focus on the company’s future growth.

Darvin Hansen said he was sad to be selling the property and that it was not possible for Tasmanian Seafoods to continue to give Tall Timbers the attention it deserved.

“Tall Timbers is an icon of the Circular Head region, which has been expertly managed by a team of dedicated people led by the General Manager John Dabner and Operations Manager Jackie Grey for the past 33 years,” Hansen said.

“Over its 35 years Tall Timbers has hosted luminaries, including Prime Ministers John Howard.”

“For decades Circular Head locals have enjoyed a frothy at one of Tall Timbers’ bars and a meal at our restaurant or bistro, while visitors to the Coast have found a comfortable and convenient place to lay down their head for the night.”

“Tall Timbers is a very sound business with a strong custom for visitors and locals alike and I am confident that it will continue to operate for decades to come under new ownership.”

The property, which sits on a 10.37-hectare plot in Smithton, features luxury accommodation, dining options, two tennis courts, a gym, indoor pool and RV parking.

Tall Timbers is for sale through Knight Frank by expression of interest, with the closing date set for April 11.
