Seven soccer goals have been stolen from the Queens Domain, adding to a growing wave of thefts targeting sporting grounds across Hobart.
The City of Hobart said the latest theft follows a string of similar incidents this year, including goals taken from Cornelian Bay, Queens Walk and other central region grounds.
At least 10 goals have been stolen from central region grounds in the area, on top of those taken from the other locations.
The council warned the thefts could force rostered games and upcoming finals to be cancelled.
“These thefts aren’t just an inconvenience, they could result in rostered games and upcoming finals being cancelled and places extra pressure on local clubs and volunteers,” the City of Hobart said.
The council is urging anyone who has seen suspicious activity around sporting grounds or has information about the missing goals to contact Tasmania Police.
It is also encouraging people who use parks and sporting facilities to keep an eye out and report anything unusual.
One social media user suggested the goals are being cut up with portable power tools and the scrap metal sold for cash, meaning they would not be seen being carted away whole from the fields.
