Business leaders across Tasmania have praised former Premier Peter Gutwein for his commitment to social inclusion and his initiative to walk 350km across the state in June.
The Walk, which will take place from June 9-16, aims to raise awareness about inclusion and celebrate the contributions of migrant and refugee communities.
Tasmanian not-for-profit insurer St Lukes Health have gotten behind the cause, pledging $5,000 for the walk.
“We know when people feel a sense of belonging and connection, they are more likely to live fulfilling lives,” St Lukes Acting CEO Ben Davis said.

“This in turn opens up further opportunities to improve our overall health and wellbeing as a community, in a space where everyone feels safe and supported.”
He says Tasmanians understand “better than anyone” the power of a connected community and what people can achieve together when we collaborate.

Gutwein, who is the chair of Tasmania’s Migrant Resource Centre, said inclusion has a direct impact on overall health and wellbeing, reducing health disparities and promoting better social support.
“We achieve better health outcomes as a state when we look at the big picture and all dimensions of health and wellbeing, and inclusion which is the core focus of The Walk, is part of that.”
Tasmanians and Tasmanian businesses are encouraged to get behind the initiative and can find out more by visiting www.mrctas.org.au.
