The only doctor in St Marys has resigned after serving the east coast community for sixteen years.
Dr Cyril Latt has officially informed the Tasmanian Health Service about his departure, a situation that has been causing concern within the small town since last year.
Dr Latt runs a private bulk billed GP service and also staffed the town’s emergency services department, catering to over 1800 patients.
He thanked his patients and the staff from St Marys Community Health centre in a Facebook resignation post.
He has plans to sell his private general practice in St Marys and intends to take a vacation before making decisions about his future endeavors.
Health minister Guy Barnett thanked Dr Latt for his service and said the Department of Health would work with him for a smooth transition to a new provider.
Dr Latts last day will be November 17.
