A volunteer searcher has found what police believe are human remains in the George Town area, during the search for missing man Michael Vrankovic.
Vrankovic, 58, was last seen in George Town in northern Tasmania on January 13.
While forensic testing has not yet been completed, police believe the remains belong to an adult.
The volunteer contacted police immediately after the discovery today. Police and forensic specialists are now at the scene.

Inspector Melanie Groves said formal identification could take several weeks.
“At this stage a formal identification is yet to be conducted and that process will take time, which may be several weeks,” she said.

“Following today’s discovery, Mr Vrankovic’s family has been notified and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
Police and SES crews combed George Town, Low Head, Beechford and Mt George from January 23 to March 5 but found no trace of Vrankovic.
Earlier this year, volunteer search group Find Our Lost Loved Ones said it would take on his case. Police have not said which search team found the remains.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
