A 000 call from a concerned member of the public, who spotted two unrestrained children in a boat being towed at high speeds across the Tasman Peninsula, has resulted in charges for a Tasmanian man.
The 46-year-old from Carlton with a suspended driver’s licence was caught on the Arthur Highway south of Murdunna around 1:30pm on Sunday.
Police say officers “received information” that the youths had been sighted travelling in the boat after it left the Eaglehawk Neck boat ramp on Blow Hole Road.
“The vehicle with boat attached has travelled on the Arthur Highway in a 100km/h speed zone … with two [unrestrained] youths,” they said.
“It is disappointing to see a driver taking such a risk at such a busy time of the year on our roads.”
The man will be summoned to appear in court for multiple traffic offences in the coming weeks.
