The final section of a major underground sewer pipeline is set to be installed beneath the Tasman Highway in Hobart, bringing the city’s biggest ever wastewater upgrade close to completion.
TasWater will temporarily close part of the highway near the Lower Domain Road intersection to lay the last stretch of the 4.3-kilometre pipeline.
The work connects the new Macquarie Point pump station to the future Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant at New Town Bay.
To cut down on disruption to daytime traffic, the work will happen during evenings and overnight from Monday April 27 to Sunday May 31.

On weekdays, crews will be on site from 7:30pm to 6am and on weekends, 7:30pm to 8am.
Detours and traffic management will be in place, and drivers are being urged to allow extra travel time and follow signage in the area.

TasWater General Manager of Project Delivery Tony Willmott said the pipeline’s completion caps off years of planning and construction.
“We understand road closures may cause some inconvenience and we thank the community for their patience while we complete this important work that will improve the health of the River Derwent and support Hobart’s future growth,” Willmott said.
The work has been delivered by UGL Limited and CPB Contractors.
Once the pipeline is installed under the highway, final road sealing will be carried out in June, with only minor, short-term traffic disruptions expected.

All dates depend on weather and ground conditions.
TasWater said The Selfs Point Sewer Transformation is their largest project to date and is designed to improve how wastewater is managed across Hobart.
