Another day of high fire danger is forecast for much of Tasmania today as temperatures creep back up into the low 30s.

The Midlands is expected to be among the warmest locations in the state today, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a partly cloudy Wednesday and a high of 30 degrees for the area.

The BOM are also anticipating possible thunderstorms across the state in the late afternoon and evening bringing the potential for lightning strikes to ignite bushfires.

Wet and stormy weather is predicted to persist into Thursday, with showers expected in the west and possible early thunderstorms in the east.

Tasmania Fire Service Incident Controller Mark Klop, who is managing the response to several bushfires still burning in the Central Highlands area, earlier this week said they were working to “get on top” of the fires ahead of the warm weather.

“People need to be informed,” he said.

“Please avoid any fire in the landscape, it’s extremely dry out there and take extra care if you are using any kind of machinery or apparatus that can cause sparks.”
