A bushwalker who became ill on a day walk in the Tyndall Range on Tasmania’s West Coast has been flown to hospital after his group activated an emergency beacon.
The 44-year-old man was one of three walkers who had set out from an overnight campsite on Saturday when he became unable to continue.
Around 3pm, the group activated a personal locator beacon (PLB) and contacted emergency services by satellite.
After the rescue helicopter found the group, the man was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital on Saturday night for assessment.
Police said the group was equipped for its overnight trip with suitable supplies and communication equipment.
A spokesperson said the beacon “ensured a quick response from emergency services”.
“It’s a timely reminder for bushwalkers in remote areas to carry sufficient food, water, communication equipment and emergency shelter for unexpected delays,” Inspector Steve Jones said.
The rescue comes a day after a tourist who became lost near the summit of Cradle Mountain was found safe following an overnight search.
