Tasmania has lost to Geelong in the club’s first VFL final, going down 89 to 66 at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
The Devils trailed by 11 points at half-time before Geelong pulled away in the second half.
The Cats kicked more accurately after the break, while Tasmania turned the ball over on several occasions.
Ruckman Cam Owen kicked a goal on three-quarter-time to bring Tasmania within reach.
Early in the last quarter, Geelong forward Will White was taken from the ground on a stretcher with a serious leg injury after a tackle from Archie Wilkinson.
The Cats goaled soon after play restarted. Mitch Knevitt then kicked two goals and was named Geelong’s best player.
Brandon Leary was among Tasmania’s better contributors and is considered a draft prospect, while Bailey Boag gathered 30 disposals and eight clearances.
Captain Robbie Fox had 26 touches in defence. Zach Adams kicked the game’s first goal, Lachy Hay finished with two goals and Josh Wolfe played his second game.
Geelong’s midfield trio of Knevitt, Jack Bowes and George Stevens gathered 69 disposals between them by three-quarter-time.
Tasmania now hosts Essendon at North Hobart next weekend.
The Bombers beat Williamstown by 41 points in their elimination final to earn the trip.
