Tasmania Devils midfielder Lachy Hay says the club is not satisfied with finishing fourth in its inaugural VFL season and believes there is plenty more to come in the finals.
The Devils wrapped up the home and away season with a win over GWS on the weekend, securing a top-four finish and a qualifying final against Geelong.
“At the start of the year, we sort of didn’t know what to expect, we had a new club, everything was sort of fresh to everyone involved,” Hay said.
“To finish top four, it’s an amazing effort and yeah, it’s just a product of everyone involved from the staff to yeah, all the players.”

Hay said the squad’s depth was its greatest strength, with 40 players used across the season and a next-man-up mentality driving results.
“Everyone who’s stepped up, like we had two debutants on the weekend and they stepped into it and played really good footy,” he said.

The Devils now have a two-week break before travelling to Geelong for the qualifying final, with a home preliminary final on the line if they win.
Hay said he was not intimidated by playing away.
“Record’s been pretty good away from home and yeah, I love travelling with the boys,” he said.
“Some games on the mainland sort of feel like home games, to be honest, with the crowd and the support.”

Hay has played every game in the home and away season and said he was grateful for the opportunity.
He said the club was proud of what it had achieved but was far from done.
“It’s just a start, to be honest, there’s a long way to go and I don’t feel like we’re done yet,” he said.
