The Tasmania Devils are finals-bound and sitting fourth after a comfortable 39-point VFL win over GWS in Sydney on Sunday.
The Devils controlled the contest from the outset, kicking 15.14 (104) to the Giants’ 9.11 (65) at Tom Wills Oval.
A five-goals-to-two second quarter blew the game open, with Tasmania leading by 33 points at the main break.
The result, combined with Box Hill beating Casey later in the afternoon, means Tasmania will travel to face minor premier Geelong in a qualifying final in two weeks.
It is a remarkable outcome for a club in its first VFL season.
Hugh Dixon was the standout performer, racking up 26 disposals, 20 hitouts and 10 clearances after being thrust into ruck duties when Aiden Begg left the field with a suspected abdominal injury in the first quarter.
Jye Menzie contributed 24 disposals, 14 marks and six tackles.
Debutants Lucas Wootton and Josh Wolfe each kicked two goals on a day when the Devils shared the scoring around.
Jack Dolliver also booted three and Harry Elmer added two.
Begg will be assessed over the coming fortnight, while Cam Owen and Caleb Mitchell are expected to come back into the side for the final.
The strong performances from the newcomers will give selectors plenty to think about.
Tasmania have already knocked off fellow top four sides Sydney Swans and Werribee in recent weeks, giving them every reason to believe they can challenge in September.
