Tasmania’s Devils have showed their dominance, with an impressive 63-point thrashing of Richmond at UTAS Stadium in Launceston today.
The Devils piled on 11.19 (85) to the Tigers’ 3.4 (22) in wet conditions, controlling the contest from start to finish in their round 12 VFL clash.
Tasmania jumped out to a 2.7 (19) to 1.1 (7) lead at quarter time and never looked back.
Richmond managed just a single behind across the first two quarters, going into the main break trailing 7 to 49.
The Tigers showed some fight in the third term, kicking two goals to one, but it was too little too late as the Devils cruised through the final quarter.
Jye Menzie was the standout performer on the ground, racking up 34 disposals and seven marks to go with a goal.
His fantasy score of 132 was well above his season average of 102.9.
Sam Siggins and Jed Hagan each kicked two goals to lead the Devils’ attack.
Nelson Beikoff Smart, Caleb Mitchell and Liam George also got on the scoreboard.
The Devils’ Bailey Boag was a tackling machine with nine for the game, while Richmond’s Lachlan Street led all players with 15 contested possessions.
Hugh Dixon was involved in six scoring chains to top the score involvements count.
The Devils dominated the key statistics, finishing with 389 disposals to Richmond’s 292 and 62 inside 50s compared to just 37.
Tasmania also had the edge in clearances 42 to 35 and marks 70 to 33.
The only area Richmond held an advantage was in hit-outs, winning that battle 43 to 32, and tackles, 69 to 64.
The win lifts Tasmania to a 6-1-3 record and fourth on the VFL ladder.
Richmond, sitting 19th with three wins and seven losses, have now lost five of their past six matches.
The Devils’ last outing before the round 12 win was a strong victory over North Melbourne on June 6, where they posted won 104 v 90.
