Tasmania in for three-day heatwave as temperatures set to soar to 33 degrees

Most of Tasmania is staring down the barrel of a three-day heatwave as temperatures are forecasted to exceed 30°C this week.

Starting today, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting minimal rainfall, accompanied by warm temperatures and strong winds.

“Maximum temperatures will increase from the mid twenties to the low to mid thirties on Thursday over southeastern Tasmania,” the BOM say.

“Minimum temperatures will range from the low teens before reaching the low twenties Thursday morning. A cool change will move over Tasmania during Thursday evening.”

The Tasmania Fire Service has identified most of Tasmania’s north and south regions as having a high fire danger on Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach 33°C in Hobart and 30°C in Launceston.

The warmest day in Tasmania so far this year was recorded on Flinders Island on February 13th, with temperatures reaching 37.4°C.
