A historic sell-out home crowd will watch the Tasmania Jewels play their first WNBL game in Hobart on Thursday night.
The club said it had passed 4,200 ticket sales for the season opener against Geelong Venom at MyState Bank Arena.
Head coach Claudia Brassard gave players the news at a briefing before a training session at the team’s high-performance centre.
“Tasmania has made a big statement,” Brassard said. “The community that loves us has got behind us. We’re a sell out.”

Players responded with applause and cheers before ringing the bell used to mark milestones inside the club.
The sell-out comes after the Jewels broke the WNBL’s all-time membership record last month, before playing a game in the competition.

The club said it now had 4,054 memberships and the number was still climbing, well past the previous mark of 3,331 set by the former Melbourne Boomers in the 2017-18 season.
When the record fell, Brassard said the support had taken the club by surprise.
The Jewels will play 11 home games this season, with six at MyState Bank Arena and five at the Silverdome in Launceston.
Their first game at the Silverdome is against the Sydney Flames on October 31.
