A duo who allegedly went on a $100,000 furniture and appliance stealing spree at Airbnb properties in Tasmania’s north have been charged.
The man and woman in their 30s were arrested during a search in Devonport yesterday following the recent ‘substantial aggravated burglaries’ in Sheffield.
The pair are alleged to have stolen property estimated to be worth around $100,000 – including two motorcycles, power tools, electrical appliances like washing machines and dryers, furniture and various household items.
Both are facing multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of burglary, four counts of stealing, one count of possessing a controlled plant or its product, one count of possessing a controlled drug and one count of possessing a thing used to administer a controlled drug.
The woman has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear at the Devonport Magistrates Court on a later date.
The man remains in custody and is expected to appear before the Devonport Magistrates Court today.
Detective Acting Sergeant Jeremy Williams urged community members to ensure the security of their properties and highlighted the effectiveness of CCTV systems as a deterrent against such crimes.
Authorities are urging anyone with further information related to these incidents to come forward and assist with the investigation.
