Tasmanian pubs and clubs will be allowed to stay open through the night so fans can watch Australia take on Egypt in the World Cup early on Saturday morning.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff has confirmed venues holding a general or club licence across the state will be granted extended trading hours to broadcast the match, which kicks off at 4am Tasmania time.
The extension will let licensed venues remain open overnight and continue serving until the game is over.
Thousands of supporters are expected to set their alarms to cheer on the Socceroos, including at live sites at Hobart’s Odeon and Hanging Garden along with Kingston’s Salty Dog.

“The Socceroos have inspired the nation and this weekend Tasmania will be right behind them,” Rockliff said.
“This is about our community rallying together to support our team on the world-stage at your local venue.”

Rockliff said the occasion would also provide a welcome boost for hospitality businesses across the state.
“Major sporting moments like this bring people together and provide a welcome boost for our hospitality businesses, which play such an important role in communities right across our State,” he said.
“Whether you’re in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie or elsewhere across Tasmania, I encourage everyone to get behind the Socceroos and support your local venue.”
He described the move as a chance for football fans to experience a historic occasion together.

“The Socceroos have shown tremendous determination throughout this tournament and now it’s our turn to show our support,” he said.
“Bring your scarf, wear your colours and let’s get behind Australia.”
Tasmania is not alone in making such a call.
Victoria made a similar announcement on Thursday, with the state government using its powers to grant automatic approval for every pub and licensed venue to operate for the game.
