The Flying Wok has closed down at Northgate Shopping Centre in Glenorchy after 32 years serving the southern Tasmanian community.
The shopping centre announced the closure on social media, paying tribute to owners Kay and Michael and their team.
“You have been part of our everyday for decades,” the centre said.
“Serving our community with warmth, care and consistency.”

The centre wished the pair “a well deserved retirement and your travels overseas” and said it hoped to see them around Northgate soon.
The Flying Wok has been a fixture in the food court at the shopping centre in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

The announcement drew an emotional response from locals, with many sharing memories of the business.
One commenter described the shop as “such a big part of the community” and said the staff were “always friendly, funny, and easy to have a chat with”.
“Part of me wishes someone would buy it and keep it going,” they said.
Another said it was one of their first jobs, working alongside the owners and other staff members.

“Thank you for sharing your beautiful food and service with us all,” they said.
One shopper said they had visited Northgate earlier and noticed the shop had already been boarded up, saying they had initially hoped it was just being renovated.
They expressed hope that something similar would open in its place.
