The man allegedly behind a globally-viral video which showed a trout being used in a sex act has faced the Hobart Magistrates Court.

Ashley David Hallam, 55, appeared in court on Friday over the January 2023 video, which showed a woman on a boat while a man used a live trout in a sexual manner.

Hallam was charged last year alongside 58-year-old Catherine June Lee for producing and possessing bestiality material.

Tasmania Police believe the alleged offences occurred between February 1, 2022 and January 25, 2023.

Hallam did not enter a plea during Friday’s hearing and Lee did not appear as she had not yet been formally summoned, according to The Mercury.

The case has been adjourned until August 20 for further proceedings.

Police have issued a warning that anyone found possessing or distributing the video could face criminal charges.
